A Rich History and Bright Future

Congress Lake Club was organized in 1892 as the Canton Outing Club and incorporated in 1896. William McKinley, governor of Ohio and soon-to-be President of The United States, sat on its board of directors.

Four golfing grounds were developed on the property. Two were designed by giants of the industry, Willie Park Jr. and Donald Ross. Park’s Maidstone Club and Ross’s Pinehurst, Oak Hill, and Seminole stand today as a testament to their prowess.

The original Clubhouse overlooking the 200-acre kettle lake was designed by renowned architect Guy Tilden and opened in 1919. The same year a world championship bass fishing competition was held on the lake.

Today, our club honors and respects the historical heritage while providing modern amenities relevant to today's membership.
